Hello guys, you already know that I'm from Belgium and it is a small country. Belgium covers an area of 30,528 square kilometers (11,787 sq mi) and has a
population of about 10.7 million.I have two rivers that I fish in Belgium, one is 80 miles from home and one is 38 miles from home.So when I leave home within
1.5 hour I'm ready to fish.
My question is;how much time do you guys need to be on your local river and ready to fish???? Its nice to know something about my friends there over in the States, and in the other places of the world Best Greats to you all,Janot

Walking distance = 1/4 mile will get me in the water and into some fish.
To go either up river or down river for better fishing 2 to 20 miles.

Janot,
I have to travel at least an hour and a half to get into some good trout water. It's killing me! Bob "Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys which distract our attention from serious things. They are but an improved means to an unimproved

Janot;
I live about 20 minutes from some superb Small Mouth Bass fishing here in Indiana. If we're talking about trout (which I love), it's pretty much 6+ hours or so to wild trout water in Michigan or Wisconsin. Pat "He told us about Christ's disciples being fisherman, and we were left to assume...that all great fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly
fisherman and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman."

About 30 minutes for pond and river smallies... about 90 minutes - 2 hours each way at least for any stream trout...(Agreed, Bob, it is a killer...).
By daydreaming - a few moments - a good library keeps me sane... and waggeling cane helps relieve the jitters... |

I'm fortunate to have trout fishing right in town; in fact, I can be at stream side by walking less than a 1/4 mile.
But part of a therapeutic, restorative day of fishing often involves getting out of town and driving through the gorgeous Colorado surroundings, engaging a friend in good conversation or just driving in silence alone. |

Hi Janot,
With luck, traffic willing, I can be wet in around 1 1/2 hrs...75 miles or so. Nice looking bit of water you have out there and you're hanging onto a fine stick too. My little trout get a good workout from the locals and they aren't all that big but the training they put you through makes life interesting at times. I've been turning more to my lakes for "teeth" of late and the rivers for smallies. Be well out there and I hope this finds you enjoying yourself. Ol' Norling just came back from Alaska....the rascal! Jeremy. |

2minutes to Smallmouth Bass, Sunfish and (gasp) Carp, 10min to stocked trout and 18 min to wild brown trout. I'm 20min from Center City Philadelphia!
With all the rain this year, I might just as well be 2 days away from Smallmouth Bass!!! Oh yeah, I almost forgot less than 4hours away from Bonefish!!!

Belgium, lovely--- and good question. A Waloon? (if I may be so bold).
For me saltwater fishing = 35 metres ---I live on tributary of the Choptank/ Chesapeake bay. Nearest trout water = 1hr 40 minute drive. My preferred water is about 4 hours away. I would like to be closer but I'm used to this from growing up in San Francisco area. I actually like caffeine fueled long drives that start at 0400 . I'm known to drive across country hitting different spots and ending up back in California. I love the little towns trapped in 1950 like Saratoga, Wyoming pictured below. So a drive isn't a bad thing for me---I like the time to think, listen to books on tape, and just to be 'on the road' to some isolated spot (like wild cuttthroats somewhere between Elko and the Utah line).

For me it is out the back door along the path through the meadow to the end of the back yard to a pretty little wild brown trout stream. And believe me when I
say I thank God and my wife and family for helping me make it all possible. It is never taken for granted, not for one moment.

Man, some of you guys have it very good indeed. We have a big river called the Vaal where we fly-fish for an indigenous species called yellowfish, about an
hour's drive from Johannesburg. For trout we have to travel 2 - 3 hours from the city. My buddie Adam and I regularly drive down to my cabin for a
day's trouting. We leave at 5.00am, drink Adam's weapons-grade coffee, listen to Tom Waits, and generally do a good job at solving the world's
problems. Then at 4.00pm we trek back. People think we're nuts, but putting in the hours on the road just seems to be an integral part of what fishing is
about.
