Give Bill Taylor a shout. He makes a fine rod and is local to you. He's also a very nice guy but don't tell him I said that. Good Luck!
Rolf Bill Taylor Brook Trout are God's way of reminding us everything is going to be all right. |

How much do you wish to spend? How long are you willing to wait?

Right near you is the Feathered Hook in Coburn,PA - Jonas and Jim always have about 20-30 bamboo rods, new and used, to cast from many different makers, and
Jim Downes' shop is right out back if you want to discuss rod building, tapers, and his rods. It's a great way to try a bunch of different tapers and
find out what you like. Have fun! (and Penn's Creek is right across the street if you want to wet a line).

I think SALtsh has steered you in the right direction. Casting some rods will give you an idea what kind of action you like. There are many different kinds of
5wts so you need a bit more clarity before you order.

Why not try Art Weiler. He is in the Pocono's about 1.5hr drive from state college. He builds great Garrison, Payne, Young and Gillum clones plus a line
of small stream rods that are his own tapers. His rods are in the $1000 range and he usually has rods in stock for immediate delivery that you can try. He
is a very knowlegable guy plus he is easy to deal with. Check out his web site: Art Weiler Rods.

I will second the advice everyone has giving you here. Fortunately there are alot of local PA rod makers you can check out. Also consider Bob Lancaster who
make great rods for eastern streams and spring creeks all under $1000.00 Good luck in your search.

What about Tom Nigro at Spring Creek Rods ? He's in your neighborhood, you can stop by and cast his rods. They sure look beautiful.

Any opinions on either Pocono Mountain Rods (Timothy G.
Mahovich) or Schliske Bamboo Rods? Anyone own either?

I know Matt quite well, and he makes an excellent rod all around. Lotsa different tapers to choose from. If he just wouldn't wrap it in that damn
green!
