Changing from right to left hand wind on a fin nor |
Lead | ||
|
I am new here so i dont know if im in the right part of the forum, but anyway. I have a fin nor #4 fly reel, not a wedding cake but the later ones whit konical
backplate and non perforated front spool sides. It is now set for right hand wind, and i want to change that to left hand wind. Does anyone know if and wher i
can get parts for that and maybe an instruction.
Hopefully you understand what i meen, english is not my first language.If not please ask and i will try to be more clear. Thanks |

First of all, he'll be able to tell you whether it's practical or not and whether parts are available. If it can be user converted by just acquiring the parts, he'll know that. There are FinNor collectors around that might also be able to help. Names like Tom Greene, Ed Pritchard, and Jim Fowler come to mind. I don't have immediate access to their contact information, but I'll bet all three can be found by Googling their names, though I can't promise you I spelled all of them correctly. |

You need a LH set (2) of the flat spring steel dog springs and a LH gear assembly.
One way to get these parts would be to swap with someone that wants to switch from LH to RH although that would be a longshot. Fastest way would be to buy a LH reel from that era, swap out the parts, and sell off the now converted RH reel. Regards, Bob Fly Supplies aflyshop.com |

Thanks flysuplies.. So it is in fact revirsible.But i dont really get your idea of buying a left hand wind reel and then changing it over with my reel, then i
wold just do alot of extra work right? If i had a left hand reel i could just keep that the way it is, or did you meen something else?

There's a fellow who trades a lot of FinNor parts on Ebay who calls himself mulletmanrech. He is, I believe, Tom Rech's son. Tom purchased all of
FinNor's obsolete parts when the company changed hands. He might be able to help.

True. Unless the LH reel you buy for the swap is in worse cosmetic condition or a size you won't use. Bob |
