Undertaking my first restoration job on grandaddy's old Montague Rapidan. At least I think it is Rapidan. Came in a Rapidan tube. The signature wraps
were replaced at some point with sewing thread and the whole rod was covered with brown paint I think. The most peculiar thing is that the rod has two agatine
strippers, one on the butt and a smaller one on the mid to replace the first snake. I probably know the answer but were any Montagues actually made this way
or am I dealing with a workin' man's "custom" rod.
The only original wraps remaining are on the tip which has red windings for the snakes followed by staggered red/gold/red intermediates with another inderminable color mixed in here and there as well. Rolled welt ferrules, Montague written on the all metal reel seat (not the big stylish letters written lengthwise but small block letters stamped crossways near the cork). Does this sound like a Rapidan? Can post pictures tonight but I am afraid the brown paint obscures any other pertinent details.
Thanks all
