they have always been one of the best FISHING rods ever made. quality and fishability have never, and, from what i can see will never, have anything but the
remotest tangential relationship to collectibility.

None, absolutely no relation to collectibility. The best casting rod I ever used was an eight foot Browntone and anybody who would do anything with that rod
but fish it should be divested of his/her license. And I'm a died in the wool Leonard guy. Now, there's a collectible rod...

no discerning investor in fly rods wants to consider these rods. it is easy to say: "i have edards, hrdys, lenurds, gilums, panes, et c, et c";
but difficult to say: " i have a couple of efffff eeeee thomassssses". all f e thomas rods have short tips, scarfed tips, tips from other rods,
short mids, butts with sets in them, soft actions, replaced american guides, replaced stripper guides, and montague bags and cases; donor rods are impossible
to find and invariably wrapped in the wrong colors; and are always borrowed by your brother-in-law to take largemouth bass fishing without your knowledge or
approval. it is best to leave these rods to the fishermen.

Leave these FET rods to the bottom feeders who don't mind poor tapers, lousy cosmetics and poor workmanhip.

These things tend to move in cycles. Wasn't Thomas "first discovered" a few years ago?

Isn't anyone concerned that comments like many of the above merely whet the appetites of collectors?
