Mine's a set of his/her rods that are almost idendical 8' H.R. Sedgwicks. Fishing with these you can just feel the history with every cast.

Pretty tough call now that I've pared down to 4 rods (none of which will be sold), but I'd have to say my Carlin version of the Garrison 201 taper
[7' 5wt]. Here pictured with its Ingvar Nilsson reel and a Hardy line.

"I never photograph well," Martha opined. She was momentarily a bit self-conscious about her new cork handle, but she quickly regained her composure.
"After forty-seven years, sometimes a girl's ready for a change."
"And don't you worry about losing any of that dirty-grip karma," Martha told me for about the thirteenth time. "I got all the karma you need right here."
Paul H. Young Co. Martha Marie, serial #4020, 7'6" 2/2 First flat: George Beall Feb. 21, 1962 Second flat: Martha Marie Model 7 1/2' 3.4 oz. Third flat: Paul H. Young Co. Built by Bob Summers for George Beall, believed to have been a US ambassador and member of Charles Ritz's International Fario Club, and known to have been an expatriate American who lived in southern France, taught at Biarritz American University, fished in the Pyrenees and northern Spain, and authored magazine articles about the early fly fishing history of Spain. Detroit stamp butt cap. Black ink. Butt 2X2 node spacing, one tip 2X2, one tip 3X3. Rod is known to have been refinished at least three times: once by Lyle Dickerson, and twice (in 1990 and 2009) by Bob Summers, who added a replacement cork grip during the most recent refinish (the cork reel seat is original). Owned since 1990 by quashnet.

I have a feeling that I'll never get rid of my 8040 Granger Special. I'm just plain mesmerized by its simplicity, balance, and action. I hope it
stays in the family when I'm gone.

I've said it before and will say it again:
Your rod has a wonderful history Quahsnet! Hope it will add another note of history in the future. Moregrayling: Don't write an article about this rod! About my rod: I have no idea which one I love more.... I think I'll have to think about this question. |

Is it my favorite rod? I don't know, but it's up there at the top of the list. What it has going for it besides being incredibly beautiful and
casting very well is that it came from the hand's of Mike and Kathy (South Creek Ltd.), whom I've fished with and like to consider as friends.
It's the last part (and that when I'm old, casting a 6'9" 4 wt. might be at the limits of my abilities) that would make it very hard for me to
sell the rod. For similar reasons the 6'9" 2 wt. my friend Tim made for me is a keeper.

ibookje wrote: Ahhhh, I see. As you know, that T&T was a bit of a disaster in the karma department, having to send it back twice before it was right. Besides, I've also sold the Holloman Payne and the Leonards I had, which featured in articles too; so the fact that I am writing a piece for a magazine doesnt mean I will be keeping this particular rod forever. My Orvis Superfine. It's built in 1968, my year of birth. I bought it unfished, so that's pretty special too
