I'm hoping someone can assist here please. An elderly lady came into
my fly-shop yesterday with two old, Hardy reels. She wanted to know roughly what the reels are worth and I said I would post this on her behalf.
Many thanks in advance
Tom
The first reel has "The Silex" No. 2 and under that Hardy's Pat no. 2206
On the solid back of the cage, it has a small brass knob with Brake Indicator stamped on it. Increase and Decrease is stamped on the cage.
On the solid back of the cage is Made by Hardy Bros Ltd and under that Alnwick England
There is a lever protruding from a slot on the rim of the cage. The lever's handle is ivory in colour.
The spool side of the reel has 2 ivory handles opposite each other. The spool is ported with small holes around the outer edge and smaller holes just below these.
The reel looks like it would have been used for Salmon. It shows
considerable signs of use and wear, but is in fine working condition.
The second reel is also a Hardy. It has a silvery patina. It looks like a trout reel. On the one face, there is a knurled screw inscribed To Dismount Turn Screw and an arrow.
That same side has two circles of round ports (or holes), the larger holes on the outside circle.
The reel has a brass reel foot that has been broken off on one side and filed to fit in a reel seat. The reel foot would have to be replaced. It attaches to the cage with screws.
On the opposite side which is solid, there is Hardy's Alnick Patent stamped into the metal. Below this there are two small curves stamped into the metal, each with arrow points on them. There is also a small, flush, round brass insert with three smaller, similar flush brass inserts set in a triangle around the slightly bigger one.
The reel is missing its handle. Only the socket remains. Obviously the handle would need to be replaced.
There is a brass framed agate line guard. The agate is in fine condition. The brass frame is stamped on the edge and says Hardy's Pat
There is a knurled screw on small frame that stands proud of the edge of the reel.
There is knurling on the rim of the cage and spool. This reel has some
chips and nicks on the edges of these rims.

! Im with yah on the high possibility of there being a 1912 check in there to.
