I've kind of been obsessed with old Hardy reels for a few years now, but I don't own any, yet. (I do have a new 4" Bougle' that I love). I recently saw a pre-WWII lead-sided Perfect 2 1/2" with obviously good condition silk line on it go for over $500 on eBay. That's the kind of setup I find in an antique shop for $200 in my dreams (heck, the line was probably worth half the purchase price even on eBay!)
What bothers me, though, is that I never see any of these reels anywhere BUT eBay. There might be one or two in Codella's catalogs, but my point is that the primary source market seems to have disappeared before I ever got to the scene.
I am sure this is more or less true of all classic tackle; after all, "everyone knows" any "fly pole" made of bamboo is worth at least $1000, right?
Have any of you turned up any great finds in non-eBay venues in recent years? Have you found any reels? I kind of figure I am working at a true disadvantage as an American from the South (not exactly fly-fishing Mecca), but I still can't resist asking the same question every time I walk in an antique store: "Got any fishing tackle?"

That was the first bamboo rod I ever
bought and nice reel.
