You really have some great classic rod/reel combinations. That Hawes especially is a beauty and it looks like they all get used which is cool. |

I love the argument amidst this thread. Passion, my friends, and a desire to do what's both right and beautiful is why I'm here.
My personal longest fish (perhaps 19"-it's a big net) with a 8' Heddon Black Beauty 2f and a Heddon Imperial 125.

The Upper Sac and the McCloud | #94 | ||
|
I ended my season (maybe not ....) with a just finished week fishing the Upper Sacramento and the McCloud Rivers with Jim Hidy and his friends Mike, Terry,
Ochio, Ichi, Nagachi, and Taca. We spent a week in a great luxury size cabin as the base, eating food that Jim's wife prepared prior to the trip or our
Japanese friends prepared during our stay. Fished like crazy young guys on steriods. What an experience. I honestly have never fished two such challenging
rivers. Lots of structure, including Mac Truck sized boulders, trees, deep holes to get stuck in/slide into, etc... I learned just how important a good,
long roll cast is in the casting arsenal. Wish I had taken more pictures, but the wading staff, rod and fish kept my two hands occupied. The last picture
is a rainbow from the lower McCloud, in one of Jim Hidy's favorite holes. Rods pictures are all Hidy rods, although there were also some Wojnicki case and
glass rods, a neat Bradford 7'11", a Reams and a few others. The rods that really caught my attention were Jim Hidy's 8'6" 5 and 6wt
rods and a just finished Hidy 8'9" 5 wt with a fighting butt (pictured among other Hidy rods on the table shot). Jim's longer rods, weighing in
at just 4 ounches, made the high sticking and roll casts work on the McCloud. Ric

Ric, your second picture, the mossy waterfall pouring into the hole, sure is pretty.

Philpsych, that is a rather famous hole on the Upper Sac called Moss Falls. Easy access from Dunsmuir. The trick is to throw a large dry during a hatch into
the falls so it lands on the side closest to the bank, and then try to watch it take its drift down while waiting for a quick take by one the large rainbows in
the hole. I saw a near catch, but didn't have any takes myself on this hole. Upstream was a different story. Ric
