Hi All,
Because of the sale on the Stanley Sweetheart planes at Hartvillletool.com I decided to go take a look at them. At first glance they looked good. Then I looked at how the blade sat in the plane, loose like the old Stanley's. The Lie-Nielsen's fit tight and the Veritas block plane has an adjustment. Then I looked at the mouth of the plane and adjusted the plate as close to the blade as possible. The plate would not adjust closer than 3/16" from the blade. I asked to see another one of these planes, and it had the same problem. I don't think that I have ever used that big a gap at the mouth of the plane. So, if you want one of these planes, buy it where you can check the adjustments yourself, or where it is easy to return.
