I like the Lee Wulff collection of movies he made now on DVD. Fishing locations you need to watch fishing the Madison with Craig Mathews.

In addition to the aforementioned, I liked these two. There is no doubt a message, angle, perspective, whatever you want to call it in both of them, but it
presented me with some tough subjects to think about and bring it to bear on my own back yard.
Chris P.S. My Grandpa is 84 this year. He emigrated to the US from England in 1953. He was not a fisherman, but he is a great raconteur. I could not watch The Lost World of Mr. Hardy without thinking of him (and then calling him, too). Like the old Hardy reels I have purchased, there is something about that movie that is, like a good wake, both mournful and inspiring. The music is beautiful. A good balance of sentimentality, thoughtfulness, questioning, and humour. Great scope, footage, and interviews. Wonderful.

I lived in London in the late 80's - visited the store on Pall Mall more than once - it would be difficult for me to return. I also had the opportunity to
stop in Alnwich to visit the plant and see some of the artisans making Captain Hamilton hooks by hand...

Bugs of the Underworld is excelllent!
Extraordinary, award-winning underwater video footage follows the life cycles of mayflies, stoneflies, caddisflies, and other amazing bugs. Flyfishers will gain valuable insights as they see how aquatic insects behave and what they really look like to trout! http://www.flyline.com/ |

I like the 2 DVD's done by Guy Jean. They are about the waters I fish and show some techinques, flies used ect. But more for me is it shows the places I
have fished all my life. The Golden Trout Wilderness is shown in all its glory. If you have never been there this this is a nice way to visit that place you
have heard about for years and years.

Alan, the trailer on their site isn't very high quality in terms of resolutions but from what I can make of the area looks marvelous.
I also like watching DVDs about certain rivers or areas. I don't like 'how to do' DVDs. |

I would like to add "Rivers of a Lost Coast". This is an absolute must, to see what we have lost in our fisheries. It has just been released on DVD
and is one of the best films I have ever watched. http://www.riversofalostcoast.com/index.php
Everyone in Alaska should watch this film. Then there would be no Pebble Mine.
I watched "Once in a Blue Moon" and I think both are excellent movies. I now own them both. Dean L. |

Good list! I'd probably add "Sporting Fly's Fly Fishing Rivers - The Box Set Collection." It has segments on the Madison, Beaverhead,
Ruby, Snake, Kenai and the Fremont, plus "A Tribute to Fly Tying." Lots of action, some "how-to" stuff and some BEAUTIFUL water.
"He told us about Christ's disciples being fisherman, and we were left to assume...that all great fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly
fisherman and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman."

"Everyone in Alaska should watch this film. Then there would be no Pebble Mine."
The residents of Alaska will not be who will determine whether there is a Pebble Mine. It will be the Governor of Alaska, the courts, and the dollars of the large Canadian mining companies that will determine whether there is a Pebble Mine. When there was a proposition concerning mining regulations on the ballot Pebble Mine backers polluted the airwaves with so many commercials saying that the proposition only created unnecessary regulations on top of too many existing regulations in the first place that it was soundly defeated. The Alaskan Natives in the Bristol Bay region are not even united on Pebble Mine because the mining interests have pumped so much money in that region to gain support. I work with a woman who drives 200 miles every weekend to fish out of Anchor Point. She voted no because she got the message that the proposition only added unnecessary regulations. Another woman I work with who doesn't fish much voted against it for the same reason. Only about 23% of Alaskan residents buy fishing licenses (many of those are probably for one day clamming trips or one day of fishing on the Russian river) and I think that is going down each year. Very few of those fishers are fly fishers and very few of the fly fishers have ever been to Bristol Bay nor will they ever make it there. Two things that Alaskans hate are regulations and someone from outside telling us what to do. The anti-Pebble Mine supporters made the mistake of hiring outside firms with outside money to present their message and requested more regulations. That's a kiss of death in Alaskan elections. You better believe that the pro-Pebble Mine group jumped on that and made it very public. I think that those mining rights are on State land. So who ever is governor at the time that development begins will have a say in whether there is a Pebble Mine. I just don't think a candidate's position on Pebble Mine will be much of a factor in determining the election for the position. Most people in this state are going to vote for candidates who say they are for new development which will create jobs and increase state revenues so that the residents can continue to receive permanent fund dividends and there will not be a state income tax or state sales tax. I'm all for responsible development, but I sure don't think it makes sense to risk a huge renewable resource to develop a non-renewable resource. Especially when fish are involved!!!! But obviously I am in the minority. But back to the subject, your "Rivers of a Lost Coast" confused me at first because there is a Lost Coast up here too that rumor has it still has some pretty good fishin. |

Digger's video was that the home made one about him building a cane rod in his kitchen ? Very cool I'm not sure what happened to my copy. In a box in
the garage I 'll bet.

In fact, I've never seen anything remotely like that video; so, I give it four out of five stars. I know it's a pretty darn good DVD because I loaned my first copy out and could not get it returned, so I had to purchase a second. |

1) Lee Wulff Collection - By far the best fishing videos of all time IMHO. What that man does with a 6' flyrod is beyond comprehension and the scenes of
him catching 900lb bluefin from a small boat and catching 400lb marlin on a fly from a johnboat off of Ecuador is comical. Watching the kid from Houduras
catch a 150lb+ Tarpon from a string in front of Lee Wulff, Curt Gowdy and Jack Nicholas is incredible as well. There is no one better and nothing that comes
close.
2) Both Trout Bum Diaries I&II (Patagonia and New Zealand). Those guys can fish and I'd be hard pressed to say anyone watching this doesn't contemplate quiting their 9-5 and just bum around these countries for a summer. 3) SoulFish. I know a few of the folks from this video and they are all top notch. The shot of Justin Rea guiding his buddy Kyle into a Permit on a Fly is insane. Don't see that often, though Justin guided Greg Vincent into seven on a fly during the Del Brown this year. Mike Wier hooking a 90lb tamien on a busted fly rod is must see as well. 4) Location X - Best Tarpon video bar none...you'll never see better shots of cruising beasts like this. 5) Tarpon - Besides the Lee Wulff Collection this may be the best fishing shots from back when the flats we're just being discovered. The fact that McGuane, Harrison, Bratigan make cameos makes it all the better. Soundtrack is old school Jimmy Buffet. When Key West was not mobbed by the elite. Still a great place though. 6) In Search of Rising Tide: Too short, but real Bahamas guides just having fun on the water. |
