looking at their website i see that they sell blanks for more than you can get a blank here in the states.do you have something aainst usa made blanks?the
prices qouted on the website are in pounds not dollars .you mentioned on other threads that price is of the utmost importance.are you thinking that the
140.ooprice of a blank from england is a dollar amt.? If i recall correctly the pound is about twice as much as a dollar.or more

They have one a blank for 50 which is 74 US dollars. They have a clearance section..

I see, I would say you should add about 25.00 to 35 dollars for shipping then.

I have bought several blanks from them. They are helpful, quick, and the blanks have always been of the highest quality. Though I agree and encourage the
support of american rod makers and the blanks they build, for me it boils down to economics. I bought a 7'6" impregnated 6wt blank that was cheaper
(including shipping) than any I could find stateside. I check their "specials on offer" section weekly. If I had found a stateside builder who had
the exact same product for 175.00, I'd have jumped on it.

Bass, I wonder if you would get this kind of service http://clarksclassicflyrodforum.yuku.com/topic/27710 ( see fishermans 911 remarks) from them or a
chinese maker.

Actually...I WOULD get, and HAVE gotten that kind of service from R Chapman. I cannot speak either pro or con regarding Chinese blanks. Don't get me
wrong, I honestly would prefer to use blanks made by an American, and preferably from someone on this esteemed forum. Heck, I wish I could say that every
blank I have ever used had the name Boyd or Nunley or Lacy or Oyster tied to it, but I am not in an economic bracket that will allow me to spend that kind of
money. This topic is turning from a question about a blank to a semantic argument over who made the blank. I recommend R Chapman, but if at the end of the
day you buy a blank made out of tomato stakes bought at Home Depot and are happy with it...then you have done well.
By the way...I am in the market for a Payne 102 blank if anyone is interested........... ~Marc~ |

R Chapman are one of the longest-established cane rod builders in the UK. They have survived the great 'cull' of the 1960's where many other
didn't, and are rightly regarded as a fine manufacturer. They have produced many iconic rods over the years, and their quality has never been in question.
All the telephone calls I have had with them have been answered with the greatest courtesy and immediate action, even for something as petty as providing an
original 1950's transfer to complete a rod I was restoring.
For them still to be in business producing the volume of rods and blanks that they are, after all these years and in these difficult times, should speak volumes for their quality. Buy British! (good advertising slogan from the dim and distant past)... Stuart (no connection with Chapmans, etc., etc., ) |

Whats generally not known about Chapmans is that they have and still do supply blanks for some of the biggest rod making firms and named "makers" out
there.

So Ill be buying one of these rods. Ill need ferrules next, I was looking at ferrules on ebay link: Ferrules
and I read all the buyers reviews and read only good things. Can I go wrong with these ferrules. I cant find any websites that sell ferrules any ways. So
suggestions are welcomed.

Both of those ferrules are good. The GW ferrules will not have quite the fit and finish that Tony's do, but they are still nice ferrules. Both are made
from bar stock and therefore not quite as desirable as those made from tubing, in my opinion.

CSE has been making ferrules longer than anyone else around at this point and makes the best, REC's Uniferules are a close second and typically a bit
easier to fit. I would say Tony Larson and Field Grade are neck and neck right behind REC. I haven't seen any of the Zhus ferrules yet. I would say that as
long as they're not the $5.00 fiberglass rod replacement ferrules sold by the graphite rod supply houses they will probably work fine.
