i'd have to say thats the darkest winston or sweetgrass rod i have seen yet , if i was to order one , it would have to be flamed , so many good builders
today doing flamed rods , you know even if not flamed , that darker browntone look is so nice compared to blonde rods , everyone has a taste for what they like
,
me i just think it's hard to beat the look of them older young rods or the rods that john pickard is putting out now , nice darkly flamed

Rich,
I will call them tomorrow and go with the 7-9 quad.....and will have them be sure and get the reel seat long enough for the Dingley's.....glad you thought
of that.....and will bring it in July so you can see what you think about it....steve
Another question! It seems that everyone that has a 4/5 wt. is using a 5 wt. line on it. If that is the case, why don't you order a 5 wt. and not a 4/5 wt?
That is what I am struggling with. Mt next Sweetgrass will be a 4/5 wt. or a 5 wt. in a 7'6 length.
I am very fortunate to own a Brackett Winston 7'9" 2/2 4/5 weight quad which is identical to Dennis' pictured rod. I wanted a rod to cover a wide
variety of trout fishing situations in a three piece configuration for ease of travel - after discussions with Glenn, I chose a Sweetgrass 7'9" 3/2
quad for a 5 weight. I'm very happy with the rod - it is quite light in the hand and a pleasure to fish. Trout fishing nirvana.
When I want to speed up the rod action I'll load the rod with a 4wt. but when I want to throw weighted nymphs or slow the action down a tick I'll load
it with a 5wt. line.
Guys,
I also got the call from Dave at the Sweetgrass shop last week and I actually told him to skip over my name because I had already picked up a very nice
Sweetgrass rod on the secondary market - from Hermes - here on the Forum.
Dave proceeded to tell me about a less expensive rod series that they are making there in Twin Bridges and asked if I would do him the favor of spreading the
word.
Here is what Dave sent me as a description of how the MANTRA Series rods differ from the Sweetgrass rods..... 1) "Wrap color is different from our regular series 2) Winding check is synthetic (we use bamboo on the regular/Sweetgrass series) 3) Stripper is carballoy (we use agates on the Sweetgrass series) 4) Reel seat hardware is black aluminum (we use custom engraved Nickel Silver on the Sweetgrass series) 5) Reel seat spacer is our choice and is whatever we have in stock (vs. customer choice on Sweetgrass series) 6) Hook keeper is blued steel (Sweetgrass series is hand-crafted silver done by local jeweler) 7) Tube is aluminum (Sweetgrass series is powdercoated and large enough for 2 rods) 8) All Mantra rods come with one tip; Sweetgrass series' all come with 2 tips 9) Bamboo may have some blemishes, but not major--just not quite as clean/flawless as the Sweetgrass series 10) Price is $995 for 2-piece, and $1200 for 3-piece (Sweetgrass series is $2000 for 2-piece, $2500 for 3-piece) One thing that is NOT different, and this is the most important aspect of the rod in my opinion, is the taper. Our tapers
are the same in Mantra or Sweetgrass series, so the action is identical to the Sweetgrass series."
He sent me some pictures - if anybody wants to see them - send me an email: playspace@earthlink.net

Charlie,
My Sweetgrass Quad 7'9" 3/2 4/5wt. is 3 5/8oz. If I was to make an educated guess a hex in the same length but a 2pc. will be less than 3 1/2oz.
more likely around 3 1/8oz like my Brackett Winston Quad 7'9"2/2 Both of my rods feel light in hand. The 7'9" is a very versatile length.
Check with Glenn or Jerry about your concern.
Dennis
On my Sweetgrass rod #1003 (7'9" 2 piece 4/5 wt) is written the weight: 2 & 3/4 oz.

A Sweetgrass rod is a rod for the rest of your life. Don't select it to fill a niche, fill it with the a rod that will fit the fishing application that
you will fish the most.
Don't try to match it to any graphite rod, even if it was designed by Tom Morgan, who designed fantastic rods in bamboo, fiberglass and graphite materials.
You can't get advice for such a purchase from this forum no matter how wise, instead consult with your builder. Glenn Bracket is a bamboo rod master.
Tell him what rod will fill your greatest need and that you will fish the most, and let him build it.
And then just rest in peace, and enjoy it when it comes.
