I usually fish with cheaper reels especially after dropping a rare Slater reel a few years ago and getting away with just a few dings. I usually go to Paris
every year in September to take part in the Fario Club Casting Competition and as this was the 100 anniversary of the founding of the C C de France I was asked
to put on a display of tackle from the era.
I also decided to use cane this year and coupled this with a Hardy 6 foot 10 Phantom and a silk line.
This reel was introduced in 1910 and was very popular in France.
This final picture took place almost on the same spot that Percy Wadham was photographed in 1910.

I assume you were not the only cane man there on the 100 anniversary - any CC de France rods in the air ?

No not the only one with cane but I believe the Belgium Casting Champion won the cane event with a Pezon et Michel rod even though it was my best
ever performance in 15 years.
I did enter the cane distance but double hauling with a Phantom rod and silk line is not easy.
The majority of the cane rods were Pezon et Michel but I intend to use a C.C de France next year.
Nice combination rod & reel.....is that Percy Scott reel a model that has ball bearings lining the center shaft?

Something to consider: Be willing to share photos, information and the knowledge you have about your
collection with anyone that has an interest in learning...........also share your knowledge to answer questions that others may have about items in their

Hi Stefan
What could a better year than 2010 to give the C.C. de France a try - as I understand it will then be 100 years anniversary for that great 7' rod presented
by John James Hardy for the Casting Club de France in 1910 ! Is the event still held at Bois de Boulogne ?
I like the above photograph - as you said it brings another photo in mind - great shot !
Heinz
Stefan, What a delightful pair! The reel just goes to show how many progressive and imaginative makers are out there...thanks for revealing. It is very nice
to see modern pictures of the Casting Club de France. It must be a very heady experience to cast there among the spirits of Creusevaut, Godart and Ritz....and
Joan Wulff as well! As to Percy Wadham, I have a few of his baits but the closest I came to his home was in 1972 when I attended Jimi Hendrix' penultimate
concert on the Isle of Wight. Well, perhaps it was'71 but either way, I was an angler then but did not know the name of Percy Wadham. One other question:
Is that reel marked for Wyers et Freres?

Petri heil! Kindly take a look at my angling art (and classic ephemera)
I do have a photograph of JJ Hardy introducing the CCde France rod to the members of the club I will dig it out and post it soon.
Reeldane, yes its still held at the Tir au Pigeon in the Bois de Boulogne. When Charles Ritz resurected the CC de France with the Fario Club he chose the
original location.
It is a magical place and for a time I was unaware of the people who had cast there and after my fisrt visit in 1995 I decided to do a bit of digging, imagine
my suprise when I found out that I had indeed walked and stood in the footsteps of giants. Hardy, Wadham, Crossle Bougle, Louche, Peruche, Chevagnac, Weismann,
Vicomte de France, Sawyer, Creusevant, Rtiz, Wulf, Prince Arenburg, Ernest Hemingway and my favourite Plevins.
The reel was sold in France by Au Pecheur Ecossais and despite what a leading has said they and not Wyres were the number one tackle retailer in France.
The represented most of the best reel makers in the world. The 1912 catalogue has the Perfect, Silex No2 , Billiken, Schooling, Meteor, Aerial, Coronation,
plus a whole bunch of American reels including Meeks Misselbachs and Vom Hofes.
