Hardy Perfect sizes question |
Lead | ||
|
Here's a question for the reel guys... Does anyone know what sizes the leaded, ribbed brass foot, no line guard, Hardy Perfect was made in? I have a pair
of 3 3/8 which I run LHW and love. I've seen 3 5/8, but wonder what other sizes there are. Did they make wide spool models in this configuration?
Thanks....Mark

Mark - Ribbed brass foot & ebonite handle were introduced around 1922, standard sizes of narrow drum models such as yours are 2 7/8, 3 1/8, 3 3/8, 3 5/8,
3 7/8.
Standard sizes of wide drum models are 3, 3 1/4, 3 1/2, 3 3/4, 4, 4 1/4, 4 1/2. Special order wide drums were made up to 6". Btw, nice reel you have there, lots of finish and probably a real workhorse. I have an earlier smooth brass foot in 3 1/8 & 3 3/8 that get regular workouts every year, great reels!

Alan - I was fairly certain that this era of wide drum had standardized spool widths but can't say for sure, also don't know if they are standard
widths for different generations. I don't have one to measure, hopefully one of the guys that have a couple of these wide drum reels and a digital caliper
can chip in here.

Alan - Going LHW was smooth, only catch is inability to quickly dismantle the reel - reassembly requires crazy glue in the threads that hold the works
together. The price of this model is low enough that I run a reel for each line, no extra spools, so the dismantle issue isn't an issue! Also, any line
cuts & wear into the frame is on the other side when you go LHW, another plus....
