Sorry if this has been asked before, but remember I'm a complete newby at this. I searched but couldn't find anything...
I have a cracked male ferrule on the tip section of a rod I purchased off of Fleebay. My questions are: 1. How do I measure for a replacement ferrule? Inner
diameter? 2. The male ferrule is a step-down ferrule...bigger where it covers the blank, smaller where is slides into the female? 3. These are chrome plated
brass, Where do I order replacements?
I have looked for step-down ferrules on the net, but I haven't seen any pictures so I'm now even sure what they look like. The blank is a 3/1 9ft
unknown maker.
I have a couple more questions, but those relate to Taper, Line weight and such.
Try this link. Order the size you need. Not that expensive and would serve as usable ferrule for the rod. Go by the dimensions that they show on the site. I
use drills to check the sizes. You probably will have to replace both parts of the ferrule. Order two sets if you have two tips. These are the least expensive
ferrules out there. Depending on the rod, you might want better ferrules.

Measure the male slide. ..the part that goes into the female ferrule . If you have a mic that measures in 64ths use that number ....if not measure with a
set of calipers . Multiply that by 64 and you will get the ferrule size . Ex. .200 x 64 = 12.8.. round up to a size 13/64th ferrule.
Most of us round up or down at the .5 point. As Dean said Janes netcraft has nickel plated ferrules That are probably a close match to your old ones. They run
$2-3.00/set .

One more question then. My blank has the step carved into the bamboo. Will this hurt anything? Or will it just be less aesthetically pleasing, since there is
a smaller rounded area, then a bigger rounded area and then the normal hex of the boo?
If that doesn't make sense I will get pictures posted when I get home to help explain.
I wouldn't think that the step-down would be a problem unless the male portion didn't go all the way down to the hex shaped part of the bamboo. In
other words, all the rounded portion fits inside the ferrule. If it does, you could fill the void with ferrule cement or wrap it with thread to increase the
size if you were worried about the void. You would need to coat the thread as you go to make it hard. Read this post as they talk about using thread to
increase size of a ferrule station after cleaning. Conceivably you could do the same with the smaller section of your ferrule station if you felt it was
necessary.
I have some of the NetCraft ferrules here. Tell me the size and length of the male and I will tell you if it would cover all the rounded portion of your tip
section. I have some of the larger Montague ferrules, but probably not the size you need.
If you will take all of the pertinent measurements and PM them to me, I may be able to help you out as I have several un-matched male ferrules. Many are from
old Monty's. I need ID & OD of both the slide section and the posterior "stepped-up" portion; as well as the respective lengths of the two
sections.
Female overall length is 2 1/8, ID is 11/64 and OD is 13/64.
Male overall length is 1 33/64, ID of step-up is 11/64, OD of step-up is 13/64th, and OD of step-down is 21/128. The step-up portion is 21/32 long and the
step-down is 55/64 long. The male end had a nice pop when pulling it out of the female...
All measurements made with calipers.
Thanks,
Warlock
