Greetings from Australia |

Hi all! This is my first real post in the forum, so hopefully you all find it to your liking. I don't think there are too many Aussie members here, despite
there being a thriving cane culture amongst us. Anyway, here are a few pics I took recently during a trip to the New England region of New South Wales
accompanied by Rowdy who is a delight to fish with. On this particular day, we fished an open meadow stream, surrounded by unusually green farmland, a result
of the breaking of our longest and severest ever drought. The drought threatened to virtually wipe out our trout stocks, but thanks to good work from our
hatcheries and local stocking groups, they are on the way back. Anyway, enough of the words, on with the images.

Gary.
Like a salmon, I need a river to take me home.

Thank you very much.
It brought back many memories of our trip of a life time to Down Under. Yes, I wish the continent buckets and buckets of rain. Also your photographs brought back the feeling we had that Australia is a very old part of the earth. We were in the Sydney, Perth, and Darwin areas, plus we rode the train across {absolutely wonderful trip}. Everywhere, the continent seemed ancient. Best, Joe |

Thanks for sharing your photos and Welcome to the Forum.
Nice looking rod you made there is that the 6'er or your 7'-6" rod ? Great feeling to build your own rod and then go catch some fish with it. Speaking of fish it looks like you were "snagging" some nice ones. Alan |

Thanks Alan. The rods in the photos include pics of both my canes. The pic of the rainbow on the clover includes my 7'6 3/2 4wt which is built on an F E Thomas taper. The pic of the 20" rainbow with the two rods includes my 6' 2/2 3wt built on a Winston taper. I built both rods in the same style with Baing spacers, burl cork, single foot TiCh and variegated jasper silk. I'm still trying to decide on my next project, but it is likely it will be a Phillipson Pacemaker taper, or, if I get adventurous enough, perhaps a quad. As far as snagging some nice trout, the drought has had an unexpected side effect of producing some really large trout which have survived with no competition in the deeper holes of some of the rivers and creeks that were otherwise decimated by the lack of water and the heat. I have recently rediscovered a small creek which had previously only held tiny rainbows and browns, with a big fish being 12 inches. Post drought, it is now holding double figure browns that lurk in the deep, dark, timber strewn holes, and which are completely uncatchable on a 3wt and 3lb tippet. The score yesterday was browns 4, us nil. I'm even more determined now to get one, despite the steep, hot, spikey, snake littered walk in. Watch this space.
