This is my FE Thomas Special. 8', 3/2, 5 weight with a 3-1/4 Bougle. It was the third bamboo rod I bought and while I have been fortunate enough to acquire a few more, this is still my all time favorite for fishing. It seems to do everything well for me. It's had a hard life because of a klutzy current owner and been to a few rod emergency rooms but has never let me down.

Rolf,
I do believe many, many years from now that you will be laid to rest with that Thomas. That is not a bad thing! Bob

For the pure joy of casting, it's this Paul H. Young Co. Martha Marie, finished on February 21, 1962 by Bob Summers.
With a new handle recently added by Bob Summers, the rod is ready for another half century of fishing with its companion 3-inch, 3-screw, 1930's Hardy St. George.
Quashnet's Paul H. Young Rod Database has photos and descriptions of over 530 PHY Co. rods, plus catalogs, accessories,
etc. Thank you to all who continue to send me PHY rod photos and info.

Ok, Bob. You got me. I do have a soft spot for my first bamboo rod. A late 755 Duracane. It does a great many things very well. I usually pair it with my
Meisselbach Rainbow, a nice, clean looking reel.

I don't have a perfectly matched reel for it, but have been using a Vosseler RC3 with my Phillipson lately. This photo was from 2005 before I got the
reel.
That Deschutes redside was a bit too wiggly for the perfect hero shot. The next wasn't much better:
I should note that this rod was given to me by my grandfather who bought it new back in the '50s. He said he bought it specifically because it had enough backbone to handle the big fish on the Deschutes and Metolius - his, and my home rivers.

Nice pictures JF! One of those pics looks very familiar since the Deschutes is my home water too! Does rattlesnake sound familiar?? My favorite rod?? Thats a tough one, I usually like what ever is in my hand at the moment,,, but if i had to choose one rod it would have to be my 8'
Phillipson Paramount "51". Bruce

Very good eye, Bruce! Both fish were caught at Rattlesnake, in nearly the same slot. Both were caught soon after my fishing buddy had fished the hole and
moved upstream, thus my shit-eating grin...

bobbeegee wrote: Bob while that thought has crossed my mind, it's actually in my will to leave it to someone. I haven't said anything for fear of getting drowned if we fish together. J The rod now sports a half wells grip as a result of the last visit to the rod emergency room. Hell, it's a fishing rod and it just feels better with that grip.

Favorite for me -pre-WWII Fishkill paired with a 1392 - close as I can come to my father's gear that was lost in a later move. I know from family
outings that he did enjoy a Fishkill with a wood spacer and the era is on the mark...

Thanks for sharing your favorite, very special indeed. Ed alter away, its best to have something you will be using in the back of the truck. I'm a Phillipson fan as well, spent lots of time fishing my 7'-6" and my favorite 8'er over the years. It was nice to see you guys pick one of Bills rods as favorites. For 4 or 5 years the 8'er was my go to rod. ![]() R.W. Lancaster Savage River 7'-2" 4/5wt With the Hardy 3" Bougle Centenary

No sissy 7030's for us mountain men out west! 8040, Phoenix DT 5 and a
Ross Gunnison. A great reel but not really my favorite. The Peerless 1.5 is in the shop getting a stainless steel reel stripper.
