Matt,
Very nice rare Stoner/Merrick " Leetle Feller " made around 1953-54. Who did the restoration? How would you describe it's action? I always wanted one but so far no luck although I made a blunder 5 years ago selling a 8 1/2" 2/2 4wt. 3 1/2 oz. Dennis |

Thanks for the reply's guys! Alistair, the grip is 5 1/2" long. I don't think they have made this rod in quite a while. Dennis might have better info on that. Dennis, as I mentioned on several other posts, I have been hanging out at Peter Carboni's shop in Boulder City. He bought the rod from (I think) Corsetti some years ago. I will double check on that and get clarification. I know he said it was in bad shape when he got it. He did mention that he contacted Winston and they sent him the correct thread for the rod. It's amazing going to Pete's as he and his friend Steve Marcino keep pulling these incredible rods out of various corners! I am trying to get pics posted of these rods for others to see. Pete's work is second to none that I have seen. He's a very low key guy who mentored Rick Cunningham after meeting him in Yellowstone years ago. Rick mentions him in his web site. Afterwards, Rick started working with Douglas Duck and Mr. Duck asked Pete to do his varnish work. Pete was still working full time and had to decline. His varnish work is unbelievable and I feel incredibly lucky to have he and Steve close enough for a drive and visit. I just got the rod home today for pics and have not cast it. I need to round up a 3wt. and take it for a spin. Pete doesn't have a computer so I print out these threads to show him. He is quite impressed with the amount of interest in what is our sport and his passion.

Matt,
Pete did an excellent job I would have thought Glenn did it. The thread is the exact period thread. I'll see Glenn here in the next few weeks and ask him how long the " Leetle Fellers " were made. I know Glenn did some after the move to Montana but I don't know for how long. Currently, the closest I have to one but not one is a Brackett era rare 7' 3/2 2 3/4oz. 3wt. which I just picked up not long ago. It has a ultra rare hex bamboo winding check which according to Glenn was done for a very very short time before they went back to the rounded check. I think they found out it was more of a pain in the ass to do. It's sweet with it's med-fast action which I like that's why I'm wondering about the action of your " Leetle Feller ". Maybe, I already have the perfect one for my casting stroke. Dennis

Matt,
Again, you are tremendously undergunned. As much as I don't want to I'll give you my 9'6" Bristol for it. Bob P.S. All kidding aside, it's a beautiful rod and I have the perfect little cutthroat meadow up high for you to baptise it this summer. |

Thanks Bob. Unfortunately, it's not mine or I would be using it on those high meadow cutt streams next summer. For some reason I find myself without a sweet dry fly 7' rod these days. Probably just as well with my casting ability. Now that Union Hardware rod sounds intriguing!

Wonderful rod, Matt!
I've always been interested in Leetle Fellers. I was going to ask what line it was rated for, but then I remembered a thread I started some time ago in which Flyman and slw posted helpful info.

Doc. Thanks for that info! That's awsome and I will pass it along to the owner who restored the rod. Thanks again! |

Hmmm, somewhere I have a taper for a 6.5' Winston from this era I miced years before making rods. I don't remember how it cast, but I do remember it looking like this sample...thanks!
I guess it was hollow fluted?
