Phil the Groundhog saw his shadow, so we're in for 6 more weeks of this. I don't know about the rest of you, but based on years past, if we get only 6 more weeks of crappy weather here, I'd be happy. I can only tie so many flies and ride my bike on rollers only so long. I'm going nuts!!!!! What about the rest of you folks?

I carry 4 32 compartment boxes (each compartment houses 12 flies of a size and color) 2 midge boxes and a streamer wallet I have 2 big plastic 24 compartment boxes all pretty much filled ....my winter fishing (often very good here) has been interrupted by so much water that the only way to reach a fish would be with dynamite.... sluice gates... flood gates... generators.... Many of my friends would tell you I don't have far to go to be nuts but no fishing and a job hunt that flipping over every possible stone that only takes a couple hours a day.... yep BORED and six more weeks will send me over the edge I think.... Once it warms a bit the mountains aren't succeptible to generation so some fishing is not too far over the horizon.....

My wife said I need another hobby. I've been tying a lot. Parachute Adams, Olives, Klinkhamers, PT Nymphs, Pink Squirrels, Copper Johns, Soft Hackles etc.

Shack nasties real bad out here. Can only twist so many flies and carve up sticks for so long!

BlackHillsBill wrote:Bill, I'm a transplant here, but I can see why. Six weeks from yesterday puts us into mid-March. Most of the time in mid-March, the weather shows no signs of letting up. I'm off this week. Today it's house cleaning. We have a lot of cabinets with glass panels that need cleaning. |

BHB says,Could be worse - you could have grabbed Lord Grizzly. Living not too far from Paul, I also feel the weight of a winter that seems to be going on longer than it should - my unusual tic has returned, my long-sleeved shirts are at the front of my closet, and I keep replaying Jimmy Buffett tunes on my iPod. I thought about buying bike rollers this year but slothfully settled on sitting on my ass reading fun/interesting literature. I haven't tied one fly yet, but we have worked hard to do a number of household improvements. Oh, I also have been skiing twice a week for most of the winter - that takes the edge off, somewhat. As always, there are too many things to do and too little time in which to get them even started - I have two rods to restore or build up, four guitars to rebuild, all those flies to tie, a ton of stuff to clean, and a few hours at the club each week for smoothing out my pleasant panda bear shape. I don't particularly like the cold weather, but I always seem to find great ways to keep myself busy and not get anything done. Hang in there Paul, fisheye, Marty and BHB - in a few weeks we'll be lamenting these pristine, crystalline days as we slog through the mud of early Spring. I've learned that the best way to please us Mid-Westerners is to let us complain about the weather - it gives us purpose. Dean D
Some days, it's not even worth chewing through the restraints.

According to Canada's Weather Network:
"Nova Scotia’s Schubenacadie Sam, Ontario’s Wiarton Willie and Pennsylvania’s Punxatawney Phil all saw their shadows; which, according to the legend, means there are six more weeks of winter in store. But out west, Alberta’s Balzac Billy had another opinion. There was no shadow when he popped out of his burrow, signifying an early start to spring." I'm goin' with Billy as I start my semi-annual cross country treck 'tween New Brunswick and Bellingham, WA. So, who's got recommendations on the best place to fish near Fargo in mid February? |

We have a local guy named Andre that fishes eastern PA's Spring Creeks no matter the temps or snow amount and the BWO don't seem to mind. So, you see, it's always fishing season in western NJ, eastern PA.
He does wuss out when the temp gets single digits. |

Just my opinions, as stated previously if one disagrees or thinks I'm FOS, then just ignore anything I have to say...

Sorry, don't wish to be rude BUT the salmon season starts here on the River Exe in 5 day. Of course there will be no salmon available to catch, yes there is too much water and it is flowing too fast but it is a chance to fish.
