The wooden thread has disintegrated, are parts available to fix this, and how can the end cap be removed and replaced without damaging it?

If I'm not mistaken, the threaded part is an early plastic formulation like tenite or Pyralin. To put the rod in restored original condition, you'll
need to hunt up an identical reel seat from the Realm Of Used Parts. Fortunately, this forum is a great place to start looking...
