How do you confirm the leaders to the fly lines???????Whats the best
manner according to you???? ( it is my first bamboo rod )

You should get lots of different answers on this one. My personal preference is for lines with a built-in or whipped-in loop on the end. I also like a loop on the butt end of the leader (furled or otherwise). I simply put the leader butt loop over the fly line loop, put the tippet end of the leader through the fly line loop, and draw line and leader tight. There are ways to get a smoother connection to facilitate getting it through the guides, but the loop/loop is really simple and (mostly for that reason) works for me. You'll need info from someone else on the dry-fly aspect of your question. |

I also have lines with a built in or whipped in loop on the end and I like a loop on the end of the leader but I have heard that the nail knot are a better connection for bomboo and better slide by the eyes of bamboo rod . Best Greats and Tight Lines Janot |

I too like the loop to loop connections. I can understand the advantages of the nail knot but I believe that by making the loop in the end of the fly line
very, very small most of the problems can be minimised . With plastic lines I extend the wraps beyond the tag end which is sliced on a taper. It makes for a
smooth transition. Silk lines are of such a fine diameter that this is not a problem. I end up switching lines from reel to reel a lot. Every reel has at least
a few feet of backing equipped w/ a loop big enough to slip over the reel. It makes reversing double tapers easier too.

for the smoothest possible connection use the needle/nail knot covered with UV Knot Sense from loon.
the tendency of the loop to loop to hang in snake guides is the cause of more broken tips than people will admit. I have personally seen three examples of this and oddly enough two of them where graphite and one was bamboo and it was a brand new rod that the fellow strung up with the loop to loop still inside the guides he then decided to just pull it all through on a steep angle and he broke the tip at the first guide. the needle nail combination can be cast up through the guides if your Knot sense covering is small and well tapered. 2 cents from the cave Jeff |

The best connection if you don't have to change leasders often is the Whitlock epoxy junction. Goes thru the guides as smoothly as the line.

I use a nail knot with a light coat of Knot Sense. The built in loop in many of the Rio lines (not DT) makes loop-to-loop connection acceptable.

Using the aforementioned Whitlock method, I use a 12-16" (.022 mono) butt section (1/4 to 3/8" adhered into the flyline core) and then a blood knot & Knot Sense to attach the leader to the butt ... advantages of this setup are the seamless transitions and the fact that you can change leaders as often as you need to without hacking into your fly line ... I never really cared for the hinging-effect (I) experienced when using loop-to-loop connections. |

You can also use a combination of the needle/nail knot (or Whitlock) and and loop-to-loop. Make a meter long mini knoted leader using 2 pieces of leader butt material joined with a blood knot (.020 and .018 for example). Nail knot the larger end to the fly line, put a small loop in the other end, and then connect a 1.5 or 2 meter leader and tippet using loop-to-loop. That will allow you to get the first meter or so, which is usually enough, up into the guides easily because neither the nail knot or blood knot will hang up and you can still change leaders quickly at the loop if needed. |

I like the Cortland sylk line. A loop to loop doesn't work well at all on that line. I also like furled leaders, so I nail knot the leader to the line and
use som knot sense to smooth it out. I find that 3 turns on a nail knot is plenty for a thread furled leader. It makes a nice compact knot that hasn't let
go yet.
