A customer who wanted one a while back had given me a photocopy of this taper that was in Ray Gould's second book in a section on banty rods. I didn't
want to make it but he changed his mind before I had to tell him, so it ended well.
I saw an original at Somerset a few years ago and it actually measured a hair over 4'-3", and I'll bet they were made from tip sections of a 2-pc 8'-6" rod. Chuck |

Do you still have the photocopy of the taper? I am interested in building this little rod, I want to see how it does against a payne banty.

Hi Matt,
My correction: I measured a Payne Banty at the Somerset show and it was a hair over 4'-3", leading me to believe they may have been built from tips os an 8'-6" 2/2 rod. The Hardy was made for A&F. The photocopy is of setting numbers and notes. Over varnish: .070 .088 .107 .119 .133 .146 .175 .182 .198 .205 (at grip check) 4"grip w/ 3" cork seat (Ritz-like blended grip/seat) I would assume the .205 continues to the butt, with some of it covered by the grip and seat. As I said I never made it, so you're on your own. Chuck |
