Hello my Friends,
I bought today a new reel: the Seldex. I think that is just perfect (???) to my new (yes just like new) Sharpes 9´6" # 7 Bamboo Fly rod. What do you
think about this reel?
Best Regards my Friends and thanks in advance!
Joao,
Well, you made me look the Seldex up -- and I found a picture on the ORCA site. It is not a reel I had seen discussed in any previous post. They describe it as
a centerpin reel -- very nice looking and looks to be an excellent choice for the length rod and 7 line weight. There are a lot of Young reel enthusiasts on
this forum -- Bulldog is one of the Young experts -- perhaps he may come along with some experience.
Post a picture of the rod/reel when you make your first fishing trip.
João,
I think they're beautiful reels. Dennis is correct - they were primarily designated for other applications but still designed for light fly fishing use.
They are on my list of reels to get (maybe not very high but that's not a knock on the reel). If you haven't yet, here is the official Young's page
on the Seldex: http://www.jwyoungs.co.uk/seldex.htm
I hope you enjoy it and can share some photos with us.
Your Youngs Seldex is in fact a casting center-pin Reel. They are used for light mono line fishing. I have seen 3 different sizes starting from 3 3/4"
and up 4 1/2". Without doing some reserch, Usually they are either grey or black in color. Youngs made some for Edger Seally that have a black back
and grey spool.
