I am a new flyfisher, and am intrigued by bamboo rods. I have a couple graphite rods that I like (moderate action 4wt Elkhorn traveler and a fast action 5wt
Redington CPS), and am considering purchasing a reasonably priced bamboo rod to try it out. I found an unsigned 8'6" 5wt 3-piece rod with 2 tips.
All sections are straight and seem to be full length with 3x3 nodes. It is reportedly made by Fred DeBell using Phillipson blanks with the typical purple glue
lines. Ferrules are said to be either Phillipson or Granger. The finish is said to have been touched up a little, but probably not redone, and seller rates
the condition as a 7.5 out of ten. I'm going to look at it tomorrow, but I'm not sure what to look for other than damage, loose ferrules, loose
guides, or problems with the glue joints. Any ideas?
What's a ballpark fair price range for the rod? $200?
Also, I assume a good match would be a vintage Medalist reel, but what other comparable reels would be period correct and decent for this rod?
Any line recommendations? I fish my graphite sticks with Rio Gold WF5F and 444 Peach DT4F. Typically looking for panfish and small bass, but trout are in the mix, too.
