The 290 is very nice - very popular for years. yep, agreed -probably 5-6 weights...

I've had a couple and regret ever selling them. For some reason, they seemed to fit my style, pace and needs quite nicely. The 290s are arguably one of the
nicest rods made by SB and they seem to hold their value fairly. Even though I don't need another 7.5 footer, I think I would snap up a SB 290 if the right
one came along. In the end, I think you'd enjoy the rod - and if you didn't, you could likely sell it for a decent price.

I've found the Mdl 290 to have a nice medium action, but it is definitely 'guide poor'....at least for my taste. I would get line slap. |

Another forum member ( citing an improved action) suggested just adding a guide at the present stripper location and then moving the stripper down a bit.
Great tip - worked well for my rod. Easy to do also...
