Posts: 268 10/30/2009 13:15	Tags : None There is a scam being perpetrated via email and it has already hit 3 rod makers on this Forum that we are aware of. The email sender is looking to purchase high dollar amounts/high volumes of bamboo rods and other fly fishing tackle via credit card; apparently stolen credit card numbers. In respect for the Forum rules, I will not publish names or email addresses. I can only warn that if it looks too good to be true..... They appear to be targeting rod makers with websites, but I would think that the dealers are not immune. The advice I offer is to do a Name & Address verification for the credit card with Visa, MasterCard, etc. They will tell you if the information matches the credit card number; if it doesn't match, they will cancel the card. Posts: 539 10/30/2009 14:21	Classic "Nigerian scam" profile. A year ago our sign shop got similar e-mails at least once a week. "I'm Bishop so-and-so, and I would like to buy from you 50 banners saying "God is great!" Do you accept credit cards?" 6 months later is was the picture-framing side of the business, same scenario. Given that almost every industry now has a forum where info can be spread around, i think it gets harder and harder for them, so they constantly have to move on to new and different industries. I never imagined they would sink low enough to have to try to scrape money out of rodmakers. You did the right thing, Pink. The faster and more wide-spread we can get out the info on these scams, the sooner they will move on. Lee

Posts: 96 10/30/2009 14:28	In response to Pink Panthers post it's not only dealers who are being targeted. I sold an item in the classifieds a few days ago. The next morning I get an email from a person claiming hes a priest and hes looking to purchase 16 bamboo rods. I responded saying I thought he emailed the wrong address and forgot about it, until I read Pink Panthers post. It seems that it's not just dealers who are being targeted. Please be careful. Hap

When I was in a "situation" on the internet, yahoo asked me to copy the entire email from top to bottom (not just to foward it) and paste it in an email to them. All those numbers and stuff are needed in order to track the original email. May or may not help....but it's worth the little time it takes to do this. *"All good things are wild and free*......"
